Live not to be unhappy instead of living to be happy
I have one friend that I always talk about life and purpose of it. This week, we asked to each other: “What do you live for? What is the reason of what you to be do in life?”. I answered it as “I live to be happy.”. He asked me “Do you get sad when you try to reach to your happiness?”. I said “Yes, I do. Because happiness is something when you sacrifice some things in your life to reach to it.”. He told me, “What if you lived just not to be sad?”. I haven’t taught about it before. Because I live with purposes, goals. I feel that they are my fire which keep me warm. He asked me ”What causes sadness in your life?”. I answered clearly “Things I sacrifice on the way to happiness.”. So, to be happy, I had to be sad. While I aim to be happy and to reach to permanent happiness, I had to live sadness. But, is there really something called “permanent happiness” ? As far as I experienced, there is not something like that.
Happiness is felt when you reach to something more and more or always different or… when you do not feel sad. Yes, you actually feel happy when you do not feel sad also. You may be thinking “No, you cannot. If you are not sad and not happy, then you are neutral.” Well, you are not. Have you even known people who can be happy with anything happening in their life? When you are not sad, you turn out to be one of those people.
Life is so beautiful that you do not need to do something extra to be happy. Just exist and do not be sad, that’s all. Get away from or destroy the facts that make you unhappy, even though they are the facts that will carry to happiness.
Open your eyes.
Look around.
Find things that make you sad.
Destroy it or run away from it.
Then, keep your eyes open, keep your feelings open, briefly be open.
